SEND Teaching Assistant

£425 – £ 500 per week depending on experience

Connex Education are seeking a experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to work in an Alternative provision school located in Bolton, Greater Manchester.

About the School:

This is Alternative Provision school, The pupils who attend a PRU are particularly vulnerable. Most have had a disrupted school life and fall below the expected learning levels for children of their age nationally. Few are performing at age–related levels. Most have significant barriers to overcome in order to close the gap. These include social deprivation, poor attendance, some undiagnosed Special Educational Needs and mental health issues, multi-generational involvement in the Youth Justice System.

The children are assessed in literacy and numeracy, core subjects, attendance, preferred learning styles and personal, social, behaviour starting points. The PRU then creates a Provision Map with targets to ensure accelerated progress in all areas. The targets are reviewed termly, reported to parents/carers and used to inform the follow-on Map.

Assignment details:

Full time – Monday-Friday, as well as ad hoc day to day cover needed

Person specification:

  • Experience of supporting children and young people struggle to manage their emotions, behaviour, and relationships, which can impact their learning and overall well-being Be able to get to know pupils and get a good understanding of needs.
  • Excellent communication skills, Empathetic and Patient , being self-regulated and calm. With a positive supportive attitude.
  • Knowledge of SEMHUnderstanding of SEMH issues, strategies, and interventions.
  • Be able to interact well with pupils and staff and able to work well as a team.
  • Able to provide a DBS on the update service or be willing to apply for a new one.
