Hours: Flexible – part-time or full-time (depending on referrals)

Pay: £20–£25 per hour (based on experience)

About the Role

Connex Education Partnership is seeking an experienced SEN/SEMH Tutor to deliver one-to-one and small-group tuition to children and young people with EHCPs. Your pupils may present with Autism, ADHD, Bipolar or other complex needs, and you’ll blend academic teaching with therapeutic techniques to boost both knowledge and emotional resilience.

Sessions will take place in pupils’ homes or alternative provisions such as PRUs, supporting those who struggle to thrive in mainstream classrooms. You’ll design tailored learning plans that marry curriculum goals with strategies for emotional regulation, engagement and self-confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging one-to-one & small-group sessions in Math, English, Science or other core subjects
  • Create adaptive, hands-on lesson plans linking real-world examples with therapeutic approaches
  • Use quick assessments to monitor progress and give constructive feedback
  • Employ behaviour-management and SEMH strategies to build resilience and self-esteem
  • Keep accurate records of attendance, progress notes and session reflections
  • Liaise with parents, carers, teachers and local authorities on targets and achievements
  • Maintain safeguarding, health & safety and GDPR standards at all times

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience tutoring or teaching SEN/SEMH students in one-to-one, PRU, mentoring or alternative provision settings
  • Strong knowledge of Autism, ADHD and emotional-regulation strategies
  • Skilled in using therapeutic techniques (counselling, mentoring, art therapy, mindfulness and youth work approaches) to foster trust and engagement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication—making complex ideas accessible and enjoyable
  • Patient, resilient and adaptable with outstanding behaviour-management skills
  • Valid Enhanced DBS (on the update service, or willing to obtain)
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car (preferred)

What We Offer

  • Immediate start with ongoing referrals through the local authority
  • Flexible, face-to-face hours that you control—fit work around your life
  • Competitive pay rate of £20–£25 per hour
  • Dedicated safeguarding guidance and CPD opportunities in SEN/SEMH practice
  • Supportive network of fellow tutors and education professionals
  • Genuine chance to make a lasting difference in young people’s lives
