About the Role
Connex Education are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable SEN Practitioner – Primary Education Support to work across a range of primary schools in North Somerset. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about early intervention, inclusion, and helping children with additional needs access learning in a way that works for them. You will play a key role in supporting pupils both academically and emotionally, ensuring they can thrive in a nurturing and structured environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with a range of additional learning needs in primary settings
- Deliver targeted 1:1 and small group interventions
- Assist with planning and adapting learning activities to meet individual needs
- Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
- Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
- Encourage communication, independence, and engagement in learning
- Help maintain a calm, inclusive and supportive classroom environment
How Pupils May Present (Primary SEN Needs)
You will be working with children who may present with a wide range of needs across communication, learning, social interaction, and emotional regulation. Pupils may:
- Be diagnosed with Autism (ASC) and require structured routines and visual support
- Present with ADHD, showing difficulties with attention, impulse control, or hyperactivity
- Experience Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), requiring simplified instructions or alternative communication methods
- Have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including anxiety, low self-esteem, or difficulty managing emotions
- Struggle with transitions, changes in routine, or sensory sensitivities
- Require support to access learning at a developmentally appropriate level
- Benefit from consistent reinforcement, positive behaviour strategies, and nurturing relationships
Your role is to understand behaviour as communication and to support each child in developing confidence, regulation skills, and a positive experience of school.
