About the Role

Connex Education is partnering with a friendly and supportive primary school in Portishead to recruit a dedicated Year 3 Teaching Assistant. This full‑time role begins in September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to support pupils as they transition into Key Stage 2. Working alongside the class teacher, you’ll help create an engaging and inclusive classroom where children are encouraged to develop academically, socially and emotionally. The successful candidate will provide classroom support, work with small intervention groups and individual pupils, and play an important role in helping every child achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Year 3 class teacher in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
  • Work with individuals and small groups to reinforce learning in English, Maths and other curriculum areas.
  • Deliver targeted interventions to support pupils who require additional help.
  • Encourage children’s confidence, independence and participation in lessons.
  • Assist with classroom preparation, displays and learning resources.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to the class teacher.
  • Promote positive behaviour and help maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Support pupils with varying learning needs, adapting your approach where appropriate.

Essential

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a primary school.
  • Experience supporting pupils in Key Stage 2 is desirable.
  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above) or recognised equivalent.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one through Connex Education.
