Help Young Learners Thrive – On Your Schedule

Connex Education is seeking dedicated and empathetic home tutors to support children and young people aged 5 to 25 who are currently outside of mainstream education. Many of these learners have experienced challenges related to SEN, SEMH, autism, or trauma.

This is a rewarding opportunity to provide 1:1 tuition in learners’ homes across Birmingham B19 and South Birmingham. As a tutor, you will not only deliver academic instruction but also play a key role in helping learners regain confidence and emotional stability. With flexible working and the ability to manage your own diary, this role offers the autonomy many educators are looking for.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, personalised 1:1 tuition in line with EHCPs and individual learning goals

  • Support both emotional and academic development in a safe, supportive setting

  • Track student progress and adapt sessions to meet evolving needs

  • Use a variety of communication strategies, including Makaton and visual aids

  • Collaborate with families and external professionals to ensure consistent support

Who We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with SEN, SEMH, or trauma-affected learners

  • Strong understanding of the UK curriculum (Primary through Post-16)

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is welcome but not essential

  • Confident working independently and managing your own diary

  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach to behaviour and emotional needs

  • Willingness to travel locally – full driving licence desirable

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply

What Connex Education Offers

  • Competitive weekly pay via PAYE (£675 – £750)

  • Flexible working – structure your hours around your availability

  • Access to over 19 CPD-accredited SEND courses via our specialist toolkit

  • Funded Level 5 TEFL qualification

  • Ongoing support from a dedicated Connex consultant

  • Mental health and wellbeing support resources
