Connex Education is seeking dedicated and empathetic home tutors to support children and young people aged 5 to 25 who are currently outside of mainstream education. Many of these learners have experienced challenges related to SEN, SEMH, autism, or trauma.
This is a rewarding opportunity to provide 1:1 tuition in learners’ homes across Birmingham B19 and South Birmingham. As a tutor, you will not only deliver academic instruction but also play a key role in helping learners regain confidence and emotional stability. With flexible working and the ability to manage your own diary, this role offers the autonomy many educators are looking for.
Your Key Responsibilities
Deliver engaging, personalised 1:1 tuition in line with EHCPs and individual learning goals
Support both emotional and academic development in a safe, supportive setting
Track student progress and adapt sessions to meet evolving needs
Use a variety of communication strategies, including Makaton and visual aids
Collaborate with families and external professionals to ensure consistent support
Who We’re Looking For
Experience working with SEN, SEMH, or trauma-affected learners
Strong understanding of the UK curriculum (Primary through Post-16)
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is welcome but not essential
Confident working independently and managing your own diary
Calm, patient, and resilient approach to behaviour and emotional needs
Willingness to travel locally – full driving licence desirable
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply
