Connex Education is currently recruiting enthusiastic and compassionate SEMH Learning Support Assistants to work at a specialist educational setting in North Bristol. We have a variety of opportunities available, including flexible day-to-day supply, short-term placements and long-term roles, making this an excellent opportunity for candidates seeking either flexibility or consistency in their work. These positions are ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally.
Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and wider support staff, you will provide tailored support to pupils who may experience emotional regulation difficulties, behavioural challenges, anxiety, or additional learning needs.
Key Responsibilities- Support pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small group interventions
- Encourage positive behaviour and help students develop effective emotional regulation skills
- Assist in implementing individual learning and support plans
- Build strong, professional relationships that promote trust and engagement
- Help create a structured, safe, and inclusive learning environment
- Work closely with teaching staff and wider support teams to meet individual pupil needs
- Support pupils during lessons, social times, and transitions throughout the school day
- Record observations and contribute to monitoring pupil progress and wellbeing
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, behavioural, or pastoral needs is desirable
- A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Confidence managing challenging situations in a calm and professional manner
- A genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable young people
- Qualifications in education, psychology, childcare, youth work, or a related field are beneficial but not essential
