About the Role

Connex Education are currently recruiting passionate and nurturing EYFS Teaching Assistants to work within a range of welcoming primary schools across Weston-super-Mare and the surrounding areas. Opportunities are available on both a flexible supply basis and for short-term and long-term placements starting from September 2026. We are working closely with a highly respected Multi-Academy Trust across the Southwest, known for its inclusive ethos, strong leadership, and commitment to providing high-quality early years education. Schools within the Trust place a strong emphasis on creating engaging, supportive and child-centred learning environments where every pupil can thrive.

As an EYFS Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting children during the early stages of their education. You will work closely with class teachers to support learning through play, encourage social and emotional development, and help create a safe and stimulating classroom environment.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting children within Nursery and Reception classes
  • Assisting with phonics, early literacy and numeracy activities
  • Encouraging learning through play and interactive activities
  • Supporting children’s social, emotional and behavioural development
  • Working with pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups
  • Helping to create a positive, engaging and inclusive learning environment

Person Specification

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have a genuine passion for working with young children
  • Are patient, caring and enthusiastic
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Can build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents
  • Have experience working with EYFS-aged children (desirable but not essential)
  • Have knowledge of Phonics or Read Write Inc. (desirable)
  • Are adaptable, reliable and proactive
  • Hold a DBS on the update service or are willing to obtain one
