About the role
We are looking for a caring, patient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 6 pupil with special educational needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to a child during their final year of primary school, helping them to access the curriculum, build independence and confidence, and prepare for a successful move to secondary school.
You will work closely with the class teacher, our SENCo and the pupil’s family, following the child’s EHCP / SEN support plan and helping them to feel safe, valued and ready to learn.
The successful candidate will:
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support in the classroom and around school
- Adapt learning materials and use a range of strategies to help the pupil access lessons
- Support the pupil’s social, emotional and communication needs, encouraging positive relationships with peers
- Help to deliver planned interventions and record progress
- Contribute to reviews and communicate positively with parents and carers
- Support the pupil through transition planning for Year 7
About you
You will:
- Have experience of working with children in a school or similar setting (voluntary experience is welcome)
- Have a good standard of English and maths (GCSE grade 4/C or equivalent), ideally with a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, though full training can be provided
- Be calm, flexible and resilient, with a nurturing approach and a good sense of humour
- Have an understanding of, or a real interest in, SEN such as autism, ADHD, speech and language needs or social, emotional and mental health needs
- Be a reliable team player who can follow guidance and also use your own initiative
- Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
What We Offer
- Consistent full-time work, Monday to Friday
- Competitive daily rates
- Opportunities to work across a variety of schools and broaden your experience
- Supportive team and ongoing professional development
- Potential for permanent placements
- Weekly pay with excellent rates of pay
