About the Role
Connex Education Partnership are seeking passionate, resilient and nurturing Teachers to support pupils across specialist education settings, SEND provisions and schools across the Dursley, Berkley and Thornbury areas.
These opportunities are particularly suited to teachers with experience or an interest in supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including those who may experience barriers to learning through emotional regulation difficulties, anxiety, behavioural challenges or difficulties building positive relationships.
You may also teach pupils with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) who experience associated communication, social interaction and behavioural challenges.
As a teacher in these settings, you will be responsible for creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment, adapting teaching to meet individual needs and helping pupils develop academically, socially and emotionally.
Your Responsibilities
As an SEMH & SEND Teacher, you may be responsible for:
- Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons
- Supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs
- Teaching pupils with Autism Spectrum Conditions and associated communication needs
- Adapting teaching approaches to meet individual learning and behavioural needs
- Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and engagement in learning
- Managing behaviour positively and consistently
- Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils
- Creating a safe, structured and inclusive classroom environment
- Supporting pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence
- Setting appropriate learning and development goals
- Monitoring and assessing pupil progress
- Working closely with Teaching Assistants, pastoral teams and specialist staff
- Following individual education, behaviour and support plans
- Communicating effectively with colleagues and other professionals involved in pupil support
You will not be expected to have experience across every area of SEND. Connex will work with you to identify placements that match your experience, strengths and preferred areas of work.
We’d Love to Hear From You If You Have
- QTS or recognised UK teaching status
- Experience teaching or supporting pupils with SEMH needs
- Experience working with pupils with Autism Spectrum Conditions
- Experience supporting behavioural, emotional or communication challenges
- A calm, consistent and nurturing approach to behaviour management
- Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills
- The ability to differentiate and adapt teaching to individual needs
- A commitment to helping pupils overcome barriers to learning
- Experience within a specialist or SEND setting is desirable, but not essential
