Learning Facilitator – Specialist Education
Location: Wiltshire, Chippenham
Pay: £106–£130 per day PAYE
Job Type: Full Time – Temporary, Short-Term, Long-Term & Temp-to-Perm Opportunities
Start Date: Flexible
About the Role
Connex Education Partnership are seeking enthusiastic, patient and resilient Learning Facilitators to support children and young people within specialist education settings in and around the Chippenham area.
This is an opportunity to work with pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, often alongside Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), ADHD, Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and specific learning difficulties.
The young people you support may have experienced significant barriers to education and may require a bespoke, nurturing and consistent approach to help them feel safe, build positive relationships and engage with learning.
As a Learning Facilitator, you will play an important role in helping pupils develop not only academically, but also their emotional wellbeing, confidence, independence, communication and life skills.
Your Responsibilities
As a Learning Facilitator, you may be responsible for:
- Supporting pupils with SEMH needs to engage positively with education
- Building trusting, consistent and positive relationships with young people
- Supporting pupils who may have experienced adverse childhood experiences or significant barriers to learning
- Supporting pupils with ASC, ADHD and speech, language and communication needs
- Helping pupils develop emotional regulation and positive coping strategies
- Supporting positive behaviour through calm, consistent and relational approaches
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support where required
- Adapting activities and learning approaches to individual needs
- Using visual timetables, task boards and other strategies to support communication and engagement
- Encouraging pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence
- Supporting pupils with practical, social and life skills
- Helping pupils work towards individual EHCP and learning outcomes
- Working closely with teachers, care staff and other professionals
- Creating a safe, predictable and nurturing learning environment
- Supporting pupils to recognise and celebrate their own progress
The role can involve supporting pupils both within the classroom and across wider educational activities, so flexibility, patience and the ability to build strong relationships are essential.
We’d Love to Hear From You If You Have
- Experience working with children or young people
- Experience supporting SEMH or other additional needs
- Experience with autism, ADHD or communication needs
- Experience supporting children or young people who display challenging or distressed behaviour
- A background in education, youth work, care, mentoring, coaching or a similar setting
- A calm, patient and emotionally consistent approach
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills
- The ability to adapt your approach to individual pupils
- A genuine interest in helping young people develop confidence and independence
- Resilience and a willingness to learn and develop your understanding of SEMH
Experience within a specialist educational setting is desirable but not essential. Relevant experience from care, residential, youth work, mentoring, sports, outdoor education or other child-focused environments is also highly valued.
