About the role

This is a Band 6 teaching assistant post reporting to the Lead Professional for Vulnerable Pupils. The role involves working under teacher guidance to support pupil learning and access to education.

This is an Outstanding-rated pupil referral unit in Hartlepool serving students aged 11-16. The school provides alternative education for excluded or at-risk students who need specialized support.

Assignment Details:

Supervise and assist pupils, particularly those with Special Educational Needs and SEMH (social, emotional and mental health needs)

Provide one-to-one or group support sessions and help develop behaviour and pastoral support plans

Build positive relationships with pupils, parents and carers to promote inclusion

Support teachers by creating orderly learning environments and assisting with lesson planning

Monitor and record pupil progress, providing regular feedback to teachers and Senior Leadership Team

Help manage pupil behaviour according to school policies

Deliver structured learning activities and teaching programmes

Prepare educational resources and work with specialists to create differentiated materials for SEN pupils

Supervise pupils during breaks, lunchtimes, and accompany staff on school visits

Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection policies

Attend meetings, training and support the school\’s values and ethos

Work with external agencies and may support pupils across the entire service including external provisions

As a successful SEND Teaching Assistant with Connex Education Partnership, you will possess:

  • Hold a relevant Qualification in SEND or Teaching Assistant
  • Have experience working with individuals with SEN
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Confident in your behaviour management skills
  • Calm, resilient and able to communicate well with young people
  • Hold a current DBS on the update service or willing to apply for a new one through Connex
  • Team Teach trained- preferred
  • Be able to show proof of work in the UK
