About the role

Connex Education are seeking passionate and resilient Primary Teachers (QTS or ECT) to work within specialist SEMH schools and alternative provisions across South Gloucestershire and Bristol. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of children who require additional emotional, social and behavioural support. You'll teach small class sizes in highly supportive environments, where relationship-building is at the heart of every lesson and every success is celebrated. The pupils you'll support have a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and may also present with Autism (ASC), ADHD, attachment needs, trauma-related behaviours, anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties and other additional learning needs. Many pupils have experienced disrupted education and benefit from consistent, patient and nurturing adults who can help rebuild their confidence and engagement with learning. Working alongside experienced Teaching Assistants, pastoral teams and therapeutic professionals, you'll create a safe, structured and engaging classroom where every child has the opportunity to achieve.

Your Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver creative, engaging and differentiated lessons tailored to individual learning needs (when in long term roles).
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that support pupils' emotional wellbeing and academic progress.
  • Create a calm, structured and nurturing classroom environment where pupils feel safe to learn.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet a range of SEMH, behavioural and additional learning needs.
  • Implement positive behaviour management and restorative approaches to support emotional regulation.
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, SENCOs, therapists and wider pastoral teams.
  • Monitor progress, celebrate achievements and contribute towards individual learning targets.
  • Promote confidence, resilience, independence and positive outcomes for every learner.

Requirements

  • QTS (ECTs welcome) or previous classroom cover experience
  • SEND experience desirable
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Positive and flexible attitude
  • A patient, resilient and nurturing approach, with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • A calm and proactive approach to supporting pupils with a range of learning, communication and sensory needs
  • A willingness to undertake relevant training and continuous professional development (CPD).

Benefits of joining Connex Education

  • Competitive daily pay rates
  • Weekly PAYE pay – no umbrella companies
  • Free access to our Classroom Teacher and SEND Toolkits for professional development
  • Career progression opportunities through our professional development pathways
  • Wellbeing support and refresher training for modern educational settings
  • A dedicated specialist consultant to support your career journey
  • Flexible opportunities across SEMH provisions
