Location: Yeovil

Salary: £93 – £110 per day (dependent on experience and qualifications)

Start Date: September 2026

About the Role

Connex Education is seeking SEND Teaching Assistants to support a variety of inclusive primary schools throughout Somerset, including Taunton, Bridgwater, and Highbridge. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who appreciate variety, wish to gain experience across different school settings, and are passionate about enabling children with additional needs to thrive in a positive, inclusive environment. Positions may include day-to-day supply work, regular part-time roles or longer-term placements, offering the flexibility to align with your experience, availability and career aspirations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support for pupils with diverse additional learning needs
  • Assist with one-to-one support, small-group activities and classroom-based learning
  • Encourage pupils to develop independence, confidence and positive learning habits
  • Support communication, emotional regulation and social development as required
  • Follow guidance from teachers, SENDCos and wider school teams
  • Contribute to maintaining a calm, inclusive and supportive classroom environment

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience in SEND, care, youth work or classroom settings is advantageous but not essential
  • A patient, encouraging and resilient approach
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative team-working attitude
  • Genuine commitment to supporting children with additional needs
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles or willingness to undertake relevant training
  • Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service, or willingness to apply
