We are currently recruiting for dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to support a range of schools and specialist provisions across Bearwood. We have both full-time long-term positions and flexible day-to-day supply opportunities available.
This role is ideal for candidates with strong experience supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). While a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable, we are keen to hear from applicants who have significant SEN experience and a genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you may support pupils across:
- Primary and Secondary age groups
- Mainstream schools
- Specialist SEN provisions
- Resource bases and alternative provisions
You will work closely with teachers and SENCOs to provide tailored support that enables pupils to access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their individual targets.
Essential Experience
Applicants must have experience supporting children or young people with one or more of the following:
- PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties)
- SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs)
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- ADHD
- Speech, Language and Communication Needs
- PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System)
- Challenging behaviour
- Complex learning needs
- Personal care requirements (where applicable)
Candidates should be confident adapting their approach to meet the individual needs of pupils and creating positive relationships that support engagement and progress.
Suitable Backgrounds

- Children's homes
- Mental health support services
- Youth work
- Support work roles involving children and young people with additional needs

What We Are Looking For
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN
- Strong understanding of SEND strategies and interventions
- Ability to build positive and professional relationships
- Calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Flexible attitude and willingness to work across different age groups and settings
- Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification desirable but not essential
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
