About Us: Connex Education Partnership is a dedicated and specialised provider of SEN home tuition, supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including (but not limited to) autism, complex learning needs, and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. Our mission is to provide meaningful, tailored, and supportive one-to-one tuition for children who are currently not attending school, delivered in a setting that best suits their individual needs — most commonly within the family home. For this reason, we are looking for a passionate SEN Specialist Tutor to join our team, working exclusively with children who hold Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) and require alternative provision through home-based tuition.
The Role: The role of a SEN Specialist Tutor will vary depending on the individual needs of each child; however, the work is not school-based. You will predominantly support children who are currently not accessing mainstream or specialist school placements, delivering personalised, one-to-one tuition in their homes, and occasionally at agreed local learning centres where appropriate. The children you will support have EHCPs and require additional provision due to autism, complex learning needs, or SEMH challenges. This role requires flexibility, creativity, and the ability to adapt teaching approaches to suit each learner in a familiar and comfortable environment. Your work will focus on helping pupils re-engage with learning, develop confidence, and build routines, with the longer-term aim of preparing them for a future educational setting where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one home tuition for children with a range of SEN, including autism, SEMH, and complex learning needs.
- Plan and deliver personalised learning programmes in line with each child’s EHCP.
- Adapt teaching methods to suit individual learning styles, interests, and emotional needs.
- Support pupils to develop academic skills, independence, and emotional regulation.
- Work closely with parents and carers, providing regular feedback on progress.
- Liaise with schools, local authorities, and other professionals to support a joined-up approach.
- Create a calm, supportive, and motivating learning environment within the home setting.
Some Key Benefits of the Role:
- Flexible working: Manage your own diary, ideal for balancing family life, other commitments, or the school run.
- Financial security: Guaranteed minimum of 10 hours’ pay per week per child, including 2 hours of paid preparation time.
- Freedom to teach your way: Sessions are fully tailored to each child’s EHCP, allowing for creative, child-led approaches.
- Make a real difference: Support children at a crucial point in their education, helping them re-engage with learning in a safe, familiar environment.
- Good rates of pay: Competitive pay, with opportunities for additional referrals.
- Professional collaboration: Ongoing liaison with local authorities and professionals, with regular feedback and guidance.
- Ongoing support: You will be supported by our dedicated SEN Home Tuition Team, with a direct point of contact for advice and guidance.
Key Requirements:
- Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs, particularly autism, SEMH, and complex learning needs.
- Experience with PECS and/or Makaton is highly desirable.
- Relevant teaching qualifications (e.g. PGCE, QTS, or equivalent) preferred, though not essential with strong SEN experience.
- A genuine passion for supporting children who require alternative provision.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with families and professionals.
- A patient, adaptable, and empathetic approach.
- Ability to travel within the local area (driving preferred but not essential).
How to Apply: If you are passionate about supporting children with SEN through one-to-one home tuition and want to make a genuine impact, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your CV by pressing apply, and a member of our team will be in touch.
