An EYFS Teaching Assistant supports the class teacher in delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum by helping children learn through play-based and structured activities, assisting with early literacy, numeracy, and communication skills, and contributing to observations and assessments. They help create a safe, stimulating and well-organised environment, support individual children and small groups—including those with additional needs—and assist with personal care when required. The role involves promoting positive behaviour, nurturing children’s social and emotional development, and building strong, supportive relationships with both children and their families. EYFS Teaching Assistants also help with classroom preparation, displays, and administrative tasks, while working collaboratively with colleagues and engaging in ongoing professional development.
Role Requirements
- Previous experience supporting children in an EYFS setting
- Level 2/3 in Childcare
- Full UK Driving License with access to a car
- Must have a DBS on the update service (or be willing to obtain one through Connex Education)
- Experience working with children in a school setting
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude
- Confidence supporting individual pupils or small groups
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills
- Willingness to learn and complete relevant training (e.g., safeguarding)
