We are looking for a Platform Engineer to join our Group Technology team in Milton Keynes. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining components of the Connells X Platform. Your success is directly tied to enabling engineering teams to efficiently deploy, monitor, and scale their services on the platform. Your technical expertise and collaborative approach will drive both tactical implementations and contribute to strategic platform evolution.
You will be a hands-on engineer with a customer-centric mindset, working directly with development teams to understand their needs and deliver solutions. You will work across multiple technical domains including orchestration, automation, CI/CD pipelines, cloud services, observability, and security, developing deeper expertise in areas that align with platform priorities and your interests. Experience with Microsoft Azure is essential.
Daily coding is a core expectation of this role. You will implement platform features, automation tools, and infrastructure improvements while collaborating with team members to share knowledge and best practices. You will help establish Platform Engineering practices at Connells by mentoring colleagues and contributing to technical standards and documentation.
The platform team operates with a focus on automation and efficiency, maintaining a lean structure where engineers contribute across multiple areas of expertise. You will work alongside specialists in site reliability, onboarding, architecture, and delivery teams, reporting to the Platform Lead to help build a robust platform that supports all of Connells' digital initiatives.
We offer a hybrid working arrangement with one or two days per week in our Milton Keynes office.
Experience and Skills Required:
- Solid understanding of Terraform syntax, modules, and state management
- Experience with Azure Terraform provider and common patterns
- Familiarity with ARM templates and Azure resource management
- Knowledge of core Azure services (Virtual Networks, VMs, Storage, App Services, etc.)
- Understanding of Azure AD, RBAC, and Key Vault integration
- Proficiency with Git workflows and version control best practices
- Experience with PowerShell, Azure CLI, or Bash for automation tasks
- Understanding of CI/CD pipeline concepts and tools (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, etc.)
- Containerisation experience with Docker and basic Kubernetes concepts
- Understanding of cloud networking concepts (VNets, subnets, NSGs)
- Awareness of cloud security best practices and compliance requirements
- Basic knowledge of monitoring, logging, and observability tools
- Understanding of cloud cost management and resource optimisation principles
- Comfort with troubleshooting and supporting development teams
- Understanding of service reliability and incident response practices
