Connective Careers Pathways is recruiting on behalf of a children's residential care provider for a dedicated and compassionate Residential Support Worker. You will join a specialist children’s residential service supporting young people with complex needs and learning disabilities (LD) in Newcastle-under-Lyme. This role is a rewarding opportunity for a caring individual to provide a stable, safe, and highly supportive environment both during the day and overnight.
The Role
As a Residential Support Worker, you will support young people throughout their daily routines and remain on-site overnight for scheduled sleep-in shifts. You will act as a consistent, reassuring presence, supporting young people with learning disabilities and complex needs according to their care plans, while ensuring their dignity, independence, and safety.
Key responsibilities:
- Supporting children with learning disabilities and complex needs in line with individual care plans.
- Promoting life skills, independence, and engaging young people in daytime activities.
- Completing sleep-in shifts on-site to ensure safety and support are available overnight if required.
- Managing health, emotional, or sensory needs during the day and evening.
- Contributing to everyday domestic duties, including cooking, cleaning, and laundry.
- Completing detailed daily logs, care plan updates, and incident reports.
- Providing clear, comprehensive handovers to incoming team members.
Essential Requirements
- Experience working with children or adults with learning disabilities or complex needs is highly desirable.
- NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) is an advantage, though not essential.
- Flexibility to work a varied rota including days, evenings, weekends, and sleep-in shifts.
- Strong communication skills, patience, and a calm, person-centred approach.
- A genuine passion, empathy, and resilience for supporting vulnerable young people.
- Commitment to upholding safeguarding, health and safety, and regulatory policies.
