ConnectionHub is a UK-registered charity offering blended learning programmes to refugees and asylum seekers in Lesbos, Greece. Currently, the lack of educational opportunities leaves refugees and asylum seekers in Lesbos, Greece exposed to a future of social exclusion, precarious employment, exploitation, and poverty. ConnectionHub’s mission is to provide education and integration opportunities via blended learning pathways to people in crisis and conflict contexts, in order to reduce this human suffering and exploitation. Blended learning, which utilises both online and offline educational material and support, is proven to better facilitate students’ learning journeys; with this approach we hope to give refugees and asylum seekers the chance to develop new skills that will build their capacities as individuals, help them bridge the literacy gap, and support them to change the trajectory of their lives by creating job opportunities and economic empowerment. ConnectionHub’s programmes are accessible to displaced people regardless of legal status, gender, age, or ethnic identity.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled person to join our board of trustees. The ideal candidate will be passionate about refugee and migration issues and can demonstrate this through work or volunteer experience. Trustees may choose to focus on a particular section of ConnectionHub’s work based on their interest and skill set. Should this be the case, please let us know in your application whether you would like to focus on a section of running the charity. We are especially keen on trustees looking to support fundraising.

To become a trustee, you need to have enough time to be fully involved in overseeing the charity's work and help the charity grow its reach and impact. Trustees meet once a month to bi-monthly. The Trustee Board does not directly manage the day-to-day work, but provides oversight, guidance, and helps set the organisational strategy. As a trustee, you will be responsible for helping us comply with our legal and administrative responsibilities to the Charity Commission and HM Revenue, such as the filing of our annual reports on time. You will support taking and distributing minutes and ensuring we adhere to our charitable mission at all times.

As ConnectionHub is a relatively new organisation, the trustees need to have the motivation to deal with challenges typical of a small and upcoming voluntary organisation that supports beneficiaries worldwide and is run with the help of national and international volunteers.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, being able to engage and communicate with people with different socio/economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Leadership and management experience (at least 2 years).
  • Strong communication and influencing skills.
  • Personal integrity and a commitment to equity and human rights.
  • Able to contribute and help make a positive impact.
  • Reliable, collaborative and trustworthy.

Qualifications: And at least one of the following:

  • Fundraising knowledge and successful track record.
  • MBA holder or experienced entrepreneur with a successful track record.
  • Previous experience working for or with displaced communities.
  • Academic or other professional experience in the education sector.

The difference you will make: Being a trustee with ConnectionHub will give you the opportunity to play a significant role in helping to increase access to education for displaced persons in the UK, Greece and internationally. Your contribution will help the charity maintain a strong governance structure to grow its reach and scale its impact. Please forward by email your most recent CV alongside a covering letter detailing your interest in the role, your relevant experience and evidence of how you meet our criteria.
