Account Executive: Public Libraries & Schools - grow your career with a specialist digital resources company in Oxford

Oxford Full-Time On-site
C

Have you graduated in the last few years and picked up some office experience along the way? A great communicator with the confidence to build relationships? Someone who enjoys getting to the bottom of an interesting problem and helping people find the right answer? This might be the role for you!

The company

Our client is a specialist subscription agency for high-quality online resources, serving secondary schools worldwide, UK further education colleges, and public libraries across the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

They work with leading publishers to promote their digital resources, manage subscriptions and renewals, and help institutions access trusted content for education, research and personal discovery.

About the resources

You’ll be focused on two resources: Findmypast, a leading platform for family history and genealogical records, and the British Newspaper Archive (BNA), a vast collection of historical newspapers. Together, they’re a powerful combination for anyone researching their family or local history.

Demand for family history resources is seasonal, peaking in spring, so you’ll also take on sales and renewals to secondary schools in one or two regions to help balance the workload across the year.

The role

You’ll promote Findmypast and the BNA to public libraries across the UK, Australia and New Zealand, building relationships with library contacts, following up enquiries, and managing subscription renewals and quotations.

You’ll also be the first point of contact for other organisations interested in Findmypast, such as family history societies, adoption agencies, police forces, archives and museums, helping them understand subscription options and get set up.

Alongside this, you’ll manage sales and renewals to secondary schools in one or two allocated regions, promoting suitable resources and following up enquiries and quotations.

Their approach is consultative and advisory, not hard selling: they want to understand what customers need and help them make informed decisions. You’ll be supported by the Communications Manager, who helps generate enquiries, and you’ll use HubSpot to manage your pipeline from first contact through to renewal.

You’ll join a small, friendly, enthusiastic team, with the chance to get involved across the business and contribute ideas as it grows.

The package

  • £30,000–£34,000 salary (dependent on experience)
  • Annual discretionary bonus, subject to company and individual performance, payable after your first 12 months' employment
  • 25 days holiday and statutory bank holidays (8 at present), plus an additional day for every two years of employment (up to 30 days)
  • Early Friday closure
  • Quarterly socials and Christmas party
  • Thorough training and support to help you succeed from a management team that takes pleasure in seeing people grow

To be successful, you will…

  • Be educated to degree level, or have equivalent relevant experience
  • Have around a year or two of office-based or customer-facing experience
  • Be excited about developing a career in sales, account management, or digital resources
  • Be a clear, friendly and persuasive communicator, confident speaking to customers by phone
  • Be comfortable initiating conversations, building relationships and following up opportunities
  • Understand that persistence and consistent follow-up are essential when working with busy librarians and school staff
  • Be organised and self‑motivated, with the ability to manage competing priorities, including seasonal peaks in workload
  • Be technically confident, particularly with Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Be accurate and methodical when managing customer information and subscriptions

Ideal, but not essential…

  • An interest in family history, genealogy or historical research (they’ll provide training on the resources themselves)
  • Previous sales, account management, or customer service experience
  • Experience using a CRM system such as HubSpot
  • Experience working in the public sector

They’re open to candidates at different stages of their career and will provide training and support to help you succeed. Above all, they’re looking for someone with the right attitude: curious, organised, resilient, comfortable on the phone, and motivated to build lasting customer relationships.
