We are recruiting for an exciting opportunity for an experienced Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist to join a specialist service in London as a Clinical Lead and Dysphagia Specialist. This is an ideal role for a highly skilled clinician looking to combine advanced dysphagia practice with leadership responsibilities, working within a supportive multidisciplinary environment.

The Role

As the Clinical Lead and Dysphagia Specialist, you will provide expert assessment, intervention, and clinical oversight for individuals with eating, drinking, and swallowing difficulties. You will also play a key role in leading and supporting the wider therapy service, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care. This position is offered on a locum basis, working 36 hours per week, 5 days per week, during term time only. There may also be opportunities for occasional work during school holiday periods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on the assessment and management of dysphagia cases across the service
  • Provide specialist clinical expertise and advice to colleagues, families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Deliver comprehensive swallowing assessments and develop appropriate management plans
  • Support service development and contribute to clinical governance initiatives
  • Provide clinical leadership, mentoring, and supervision to other therapy staff where required
  • Work collaboratively with education, healthcare, and care professionals to achieve positive outcomes
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and reports in line with professional standards

Essential Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Significant post-qualification experience as a Speech and Language Therapist
  • Demonstrable experience in the assessment and management of dysphagia
  • Experience working at Band 7 level or ready to step into a Band 7 leadership role
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
  • Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience in a Clinical Lead or senior specialist role
  • Experience working within education, community, or specialist settings
  • Involvement in service development, training, or supervision of staff
