We are currently recruiting for a Locum Speech and Language Therapist to join a welcoming and supportive team in London from September. This is an excellent opportunity for an SLT with experience in special education settings or working with children and young people who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). The successful candidate will join an established therapy team and benefit from a comprehensive handover from the current post holder, ensuring a smooth transition into the role.
The Role
You will be working within a secondary-aged special school population, supporting students with a range of communication needs. Approximately 60% of the caseload consists of young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), alongside other speech, language, communication, and learning needs. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within an established Speech and Language Therapy team, including a Speech and Language Therapy Lead and Therapy Assistant, helping to deliver high-quality, person-centred interventions and support.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and deliver a varied Speech and Language Therapy caseload within a secondary school setting
- Assess, plan, and deliver evidence-based interventions for students with communication needs
- Support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and associated communication difficulties
- Contribute to and review outcomes linked to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
- Work closely with teaching staff, families, and multidisciplinary professionals
- Provide recommendations and strategies to support communication across the educational environment
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation
Essential Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Speech and Language Therapy
- HCPC registration
- Experience working within a special school setting or strong experience supporting children and young people with EHCPs
- Knowledge and understanding of ASD and speech, language, and communication needs
- Excellent communication, organisational, and report-writing skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
