Our client, a well-established manufacturing business based in Barnsley, is looking to recruit a skilled Maintenance Engineer to join their Maintenance team. This is a hands-on role providing technical support and maintenance services, ensuring machines and equipment operate efficiently and safely. The position operates on a continental shift pattern, 4 days on, 4 days off, consisting of two day shifts (6am – 6pm) followed by two night shifts (6pm – 6am). The role offers excellent exposure to mechanical and electrical systems, continuous improvement initiatives, and opportunities for professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out day-to-day project work, preventative maintenance, and reactive breakdown repairs
  • Work alongside the technical team to understand the functions of all machines
  • Perform mechanical tasks including drilling, tapping, using dies, files, bearings, pneumatic cylinders, and gearboxes
  • Operate workshop machinery such as surface grinders, lathes, millers, pillar drills, pedestal grinders, and hydraulic presses
  • Read and interpret electrical schematic drawings (Spuhl, LPT, Koch, Friggerio)
  • Understand different types of circuits and components, including 3-phase, single-phase, and 24v systems
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and the development of maintenance processes

Skills and Qualifications:

  • GCSEs or equivalent
  • Minimum Level 3 BTEC in Engineering
  • HNC/HND in Engineering preferred but not essential
  • Experience in fault finding and problem-solving
  • Experience in using workshop machinery
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
