Are you looking for a role that is genuinely rewarding and allows you the chance to make a real difference to people's lives? We are currently recruiting permanent and relief Passenger Assistants for routes across the district and beyond (e.g. Barnsley, Halifax and Doncaster).
At Wakefield our vision is to support our children and young people to ensure they are happy, healthy, safe and ambitious so we can work together to help them achieve their potential and dreams. If you share this ethos, then we really want to hear from you.
About you: You will get on well with people, have a compassionate and supportive nature and be patient and understanding. You will also need to have previous experience of caring for people and have and/or experience of disabilities and medical conditions. You must also be very reliable and flexible and willing to participate in induction and training.
About the role: The Home to School Transport Service provides transport for 1000 children and young people from age 2 to 24 years. You will be supporting vulnerable children and adults with learning difficulties and disabilities, travelling on Council transport to and from school/college. Working closely with the driver you will ensure that the passengers in your care have a safe and enjoyable journey and will be responsible for ensuring seatbelts/harnesses are worn, that children are safely strapped into the appropriate seating and you can physically manoeuvre and secure occupied wheelchairs.
You will travel on a range of different vehicles (e.g. taxis, minibuses, specially adapted vehicles) and will be picked up and dropped off by the Operator at your home address. Most children will attend normal school session times whilst others will have timetables tailored to respond to their individual needs. Hours will vary depending on how many children are on the vehicle, where you and the children live or where the school is located. Routes and hours may vary and change often at short notice and as changes can occur at any time throughout the year your hours will also be adjusted to reflect these changes.
What we'll offer in return: We are proud to offer an environment that is supportive and rewarding, working as part of a team who are passionate about the work they do. We offer a good rate of pay, a great set of terms and conditions and training opportunities.
An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for this role. A conviction may not exclude candidates from appointment but will be considered as part of the recruitment process.
