Welcome and thank you for your interest in leading Hertfordshire Pension Fund as our next Head of Pensions, a pivotal leadership role at a time of transformation.
The Hertfordshire Pension Fund is part of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) and administered by Hertfordshire County Council. With 123,922 members, 529 employers, and £6.25 billion in assets, we are a cornerstone of financial security for thousands of public sector employees across the county. Joining us means playing a vital role in delivering excellence, innovation, and integrity in public service.
The Fund is entering an exciting new chapter. Currently part of the ACCESS pool, we are preparing to transition to Border to Coast Pensions Partnership (BCPP) by April 2026. This move aligns with national LGPS pooling requirements and will open access to a broader range of investment opportunities, enhanced governance, and collaboration with one of the UK’s largest asset pools.
We take pride in strong governance and sound investment decisions to ensure statutory obligations and fiduciary responsibilities are met. We partner with Local Pensions Partnership Administration (LPPA) to deliver administration services to members and employers, and work closely with our actuaries, Barnett Waddingham, and investment consultant, Mercer, to achieve our mission. But we’re not standing still. We’re embracing innovation and continuous improvement to meet the growing demands of the LGPS and the wider pensions industry.
This is your opportunity to lead a Fund that is rising to meet challenges head-on delivering the McCloud remedy, driving progress towards Net Zero, and advancing our Place-Based Impact Investment Strategy. You will help to shape the future of public sector pensions.
This role demands a confident, strategic leader with extensive experience in public sector pensions, strong stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to navigate complex regulatory frameworks. While a CCAB or PMI qualification is desirable, we welcome applications from candidates with proven expertise in any of the core areas of pensions – investments, administration, or governance.
Join us… It really is a fantastic time to be joining us as we look to build on the strong foundation which we have built over the last few years and look to adapt to the exciting changes following implementation of the Pensions Review. Come and join a team that supports communities, invests in futures, and delivers real change across Hertfordshire.
If you are interested in joining our team and are inspired to help lead the next phase of our journey, we look forward to your application.
Close Date: Monday 2 February.
