An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Westmorland and Furness Council’s Planning Policy Service as a Local Plan Programme Support Officer, providing essential administrative and project coordination support to help deliver the Council’s new Local Plan. The Planning Policy Service plays a vital role in shaping the future of the area, developing evidence‑based policies that promote sustainable development, support economic growth, protect the environment, and enhance community wellbeing. Delivery of the Local Plan is a priority for the council as it will guide how and where development happens across Westmorland and Furness.

In this key supporting role, you’ll work closely with the Local Plan Programme Lead and the wider team to ensure the smooth day‑to‑day running of the Local Plan programme. You’ll assist with project tracking, team coordination, budget and procurement processes, and stakeholder engagement activities. You’ll also help organise meetings, consultations, and public engagement events, ensuring that all documentation, communications, and data are accurate, accessible, and compliant with Council standards.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to contribute to one of the Council’s most important strategic projects, developing valuable experience in project coordination, planning policy, and local government.

Who we are looking for…

We’re looking for a highly organised, proactive, and adaptable individual who thrives in a busy, collaborative environment. You’ll bring:

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Business Administration, or relevant experience in project or programme support.
  • Experience supporting projects or programmes using recognised project management processes.
  • Excellent organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and digital systems for data management and reporting.
  • A positive, customer‑focused attitude and a commitment to high‑quality service delivery.
