You have an opportunity to be part of this in the role of PH Project Officer. It is an exciting time to be involved in health, wellbeing, and community support in Doncaster. The Doncaster Growing Together Borough Strategy has set out to change the way that public services deliver community support.
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with a passion for improving public health and wellbeing to join our Healthy Places team. The link between good health and wellbeing has a strong evidence base, and this post will be at the forefront of assisting in the delivery of sustainable and innovative approaches to provide the right conditions for residents to walk more and lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
The post-holder will work with various council departments and external partners to implement and deliver a programme to boost the number of people walking, wheeling and cycling within Doncaster’s Central and East localities supporting Ride, Stride and Thrive. Due to the nature of the role, the postholder will have a base within communities and will work some of their time at the points of delivery in each locality and the Civic Office. The role will include a variety of tasks in relation to the implementation of the programme, therefore the postholder will be comfortable working in an agile, responsive and flexible way.
Responsibilities- Deliver the implementation of the walking elements of Ride, Stride and Thrive by developing local walking interventions in Central and East Doncaster. This includes, but is not limited to, developing, promoting and delivering a range of local walks with groups and individuals, planning routes to create a series of walking maps and supporting residents to design their own personalised travel plans.
- Support residents by facilitating motivational conversations to encourage behaviour change.
- Proactively engage with stakeholders, e.g. GPs, community groups, workplaces and existing walking groups to promote walking by developing and maintaining regular communication and working in collaboration to share knowledge.
- Responsible for establishing a network of local walk leaders, promoting and encouraging walk leader training opportunities, and supporting participation in walking groups.
- Create a legacy of trained walk leaders and walking groups to ensure long-term sustainability and continue to have a positive impact in the two areas.
- Play an active role in ensuring the success of Ride, Stride and Thrive objectives by working collaboratively with the RST Team and partners.
- Support other areas across the Healthy Places Team portfolio when required.
- Understanding of the benefits of walking, wheeling and cycling to improve health and wellbeing.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
