A fast-growing, PE-backed engineering firm is expanding its mechanical design team to support major landmark projects in defence, infrastructure, and high-integrity moving systems. This is a standout opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a team-first culture and strong focus on continuous development.
This is for someone with proven experience designing large fabricated structures and using tools like Mathcad to back up their work with robust calculations. You’ll work on highly engineered moving systems, including large steel structures, box girders, and precision mechanical handling equipment alongside a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team.
Projects span the full lifecycle from concept design and substantiation through to commissioning and client delivery.
The Role
- Lead mechanical design across complex moving structures, often bespoke and high-value
- Produce and review engineering calculations in Mathcad to support design validation and compliance
- Design large fabricated components such as box girders, linkages, and steel assemblies
- Approve 3D models, 2D drawings, and engineering documentation for CE/UKCA compliance
- Liaise with systems, controls, and EC&I engineers to develop fully integrated solutions
- Support commissioning and act as a key technical contact for mechanical design
What You’ll Bring
- Strong mechanical design background with experience in cranes, lifting systems, or large machinery
- High proficiency in Mathcad for stress and structural calculations
- Confident with CAD software such as SolidWorks or Inventor, plus familiarity with drawing standards
- Working knowledge of Eurocodes, CE/UKCA compliance, and design risk assessments
- Good communicator with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and with clients
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (Chartered or working toward is ideal)
