Shape the IoT Architecture of one of the world’s most advanced office environments
We’re partnering with a leading facilities management company responsible for operating one of the most modern and prestigious office developments globally. This is not a lab project or a theoretical IoT role. This role focuses on bringing a live, complex, mission‑critical smart building ecosystem into long‑term operation.
They are now looking for an IoT Subject Matter Expert to take technical ownership of their connected building architecture and ensure that tens of thousands of assets transition cleanly from project delivery into stable, data‑driven operations.
If you understand how IoT actually works in the real world, across buildings, infrastructure, data, and people, this role gives you genuine influence.
The opportunity
You will act as the technical authority for IoT and connected systems, bridging engineering, data, and operational teams. A major focus of the role is ensuring the accuracy, structure, and integrity of asset data, up to approximately 13,000 devices, during commissioning, close‑out, and handover.
In short, you will create and protect a single source of truth for a highly complex smart building, reducing operational risk and enabling long‑term value from data.
This role suits someone who does not just connect devices, but designs ecosystems that scale, remain secure, and deliver commercial and operational outcomes.
What you’ll be doing
IoT Architecture & Strategy
- Define end‑to‑end IoT architecture across device, gateway, cloud, and application layers
- Own technical roadmaps from Proof of Concept through to full production
- Select appropriate sensors, controllers, and connectivity solutions based on cost, power, environment, and longevity
- Design scalable integrations using platforms such as AWS IoT Core or Azure IoT Hub
Implementation & Delivery
- Oversee deployment of edge computing to optimise latency and bandwidth
- Define and enforce communication standards including MQTT, CoAP, LoRaWAN, Zigbee, and BLE
- Work closely with firmware, backend, and data teams to ensure clean ingestion and usable outputs
- Resolve complex connectivity and data issues in live environments
Data Integrity, Security & Compliance
- Enforce robust data structures and manage consolidation of asset registers
- Champion security by design, including TLS, SSL, device provisioning, PKI, and identity management
- Ensure compliance with GDPR and relevant industry standards
- De‑risk building handover by ensuring asset and system data is accurate, complete, and trusted
Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the technical bridge between engineering teams and non‑technical stakeholders
- Mentor engineers and data specialists on IoT best practices
- Manage and challenge third‑party vendors and technology partners
- Strong experience managing large, complex datasets, including advanced spreadsheet use
- Deep knowledge of building control systems, including BMS, EMS, LMS, PMS, security, fire, and IoT‑connected devices
- Solid understanding of building services such as HVAC, electrical distribution, and plumbing
- Strong numeracy, organisation, and communication skills
- Comfortable operating as a technical authority in high‑stakes environments
- Engineering qualification, BEng, BSc, or HND, or equivalent hands‑on experience
- Background in installing, commissioning, or operating electrical or control systems
- Experience with databases or structured data environments
