Position Overview
To strengthen our team, we are looking for a motivated, results-oriented, and collaborative Electrical Design Engineer & Surveyor.

Key Responsibilities
- Carry out detailed design & electrical site surveys to assess existing installations and project requirements.
- Assist electrical department producing electrical designs, drawings, calculations, and technical documentation for a range of projects.
- Review, verify, and formally sign off electrical designs, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.

- Electricity at Work Regulations
- Building Regulations
- Relevant British Standards and industry guidance
- Client specifications and contractual requirements
- Undertake load calculations, cable sizing, fault level calculations, voltage drop calculations, and protection coordination.
- Oversee the preparation of electrical schematics, layouts, and design documentation using CAD software where required.
- Provide technical support to project managers, engineers, and installation teams throughout project delivery.
- Identify design risks and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), and other stakeholders.
- Review design changes and ensure all revisions are technically compliant before approval.
- Maintain accurate design records and technical documentation.
- Assist in developing engineering standards, procedures, and best practice.
- Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with company Health & Safety policies and CDM Regulations where applicable.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the engineering function.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in electrical design within telecoms projects.
- Experience carrying out both design and electrical site surveys.
- Strong knowledge of design handbooks, electrical distribution systems and installation practices.
- Experience producing and approving electrical designs.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings, and standards.
- Experience undertaking electrical calculations and selecting appropriate equipment.
- Excellent understanding of BS 7671 and current electrical legislation.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work to deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and electrical design software.
- Familiarity with CDM Regulations and construction project delivery.
- Experience using Auto CAD or similar CAD software.
- Knowledge of renewable energy systems, EV charging infrastructure, or battery storage systems.
- Experience working within NICEIC or equivalent accredited organisations.
- understanding of RF engineering, cell planning, and site acquisition workflows.
- Experience with design tools like Auto CAD, GIS, and propagation software (e. g., Atoll, Planet).
- Knowledge of relevant wireless technologies and standards (e. g. LTE, 5G, Io T).
- Ideally previous experience in VMo2 projects
- Familiarity with telecoms regulations, health and safety requirements, and design codes.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Qualifications
- HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing) or equivalent (desirable depending on business requirements).
- Current 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards professional registration.
- Membership of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or another relevant professional body.
- IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
- Site Access – Rooftop Worker, RF Awareness, Asbestos Awareness and First Aid.
- Key Accountabilities
- Ensure all electrical designs are technically accurate and fully compliant with applicable regulations.
- Act as the competent person responsible for electrical design review and sign-off.
- Deliver high-quality surveys and engineering designs within agreed timescales.
- Maintain compliance with company quality management systems.
- Provide expert technical guidance to internal teams and clients.
- Support safe, efficient, and cost-effective project delivery while maintaining engineering excellence.
