We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Waste Collector to join our diverse team. As a Waste Collector, you will play a vital role in maintaining clean and sustainable communities by ensuring the efficient collection and disposal of waste materials.

Responsibilities

  • Collect waste and recyclable materials from residential, commercial, and public locations following established routes and schedules.
  • Operate waste collection vehicles and equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Sort and separate waste according to company and environmental guidelines to promote recycling and reduce landfill use.
  • Report any hazards or issues encountered during collection, including damaged bins or safety concerns.
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to meet daily targets and uphold safety standards.
  • Engage with community members respectfully and professionally, promoting awareness of proper waste disposal practices.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Waste Operative or in a related role is preferred but not essential; comprehensive training will be provided.
  • Ability to operate waste collection vehicles or willingness to obtain relevant licenses.
  • Physical fitness and stamina to manage manual handling tasks safely.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a diverse team.
  • Commitment to health and safety regulations and environmental sustainability.
  • Positive attitude towards learning and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.

Day-to-Day

  • Begin the day with a team briefing to discuss routes, safety protocols, and any special instructions.
  • Load and unload waste bins carefully and efficiently along assigned routes.
  • Navigate through communities, ensuring timely waste collection while minimising disruption.
  • Monitor vehicle condition and cleanliness, reporting any maintenance needs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to handle unexpected challenges such as adverse weather or roadblocks.
  • End the day by cleaning equipment, updating records, and participating in team debriefs.
