Connect2Luton are excited to recruit a Data Architect on behalf of Luton Borough Council.

Main purpose of position

The Data Architect is responsible for defining, maintaining and assuring the organisation's data architecture, ensuring that data platforms, models and integration's are coherent, scalable, secure and aligned to organisational needs.

The role provides technical leadership and direction on how data is structured, integrated and used across the organisation, supporting analytics, reporting and data‑led decision‑making.

The postholder works closely with data engineers, analysts, platform teams and service areas to ensure data solutions are designed consistently and operate effectively.

Operating as a senior specialist, the Data Architect establishes architectural standards and patterns and ensures that data initiatives align with agreed architectures, governance and best practice.

You will be responsible to

  • Define and maintain data architecture principles, standards and patterns across data platforms and solutions.
  • Design conceptual, logical and physical data models to support organisational requirements
  • Define approaches for integrating data from multiple internal and external sources.
  • Ensure interoperability between systems and platforms to enable joined‑up data use.
  • Ensure data architecture supports governance, security, data‑protection and retention requirements.
  • Work with relevant teams to embed appropriate controls and design‑time safeguards.
  • Work closely with data engineers, analysts and service teams to translate requirements into effective architectural designs.
  • Review and evolve data architecture in response to changing organisational needs and technology developments.
  • Contribute to the development of architectural documentation and reusable artefacts.

Skills and Experience

  • Significant experience working in a data architecture or senior data engineering role within a complex organisation
  • Experience designing conceptual, logical and physical data models
  • Experience providing architectural assurance or design governance for data or analytics solutions
  • Experience working across multiple systems and data sources, including integration approaches
  • Experience contributing to the delivery of data platforms or analytics initiatives
  • Strong ability to design and articulate data architectures and models
  • Clear communication skills, able to explain architectural concepts to non‑technical audiences
  • Working knowledge of data architecture principles, including data modelling, integration patterns, governance and secure data design within analytical environments
  • Able to attend meetings and work at various locations as required
  • Able to work outside normal office hours on occasion to meet service and project demands
