Connect2Kent are recruiting a Locum Social Worker to join Kent County Council's Unaccompanied Minors (UASC) Social Work Team, supporting newly arrived unaccompanied asylum-seeking children as they enter the UK through Dover and transition into care. This is a unique, meaningful role where you'll be the first point of contact for some of the most vulnerable young people arriving in the country - with strong supervision, structured development, and a supportive team.

About the Role

You'll act as a first responder for UASC arrivals at Dover and/or manage a caseload of newly arrived unaccompanied minors who become Children in Care. Your work will involve assessment, planning, intervention and ongoing support, ensuring each young person receives safe, appropriate care. This role is aligned with the Social Care Capability Framework (SCCF) and is suitable for practitioners still within their ASYE period, with caseloads and supervision tailored to experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete initial assessments at Dover - Assess newly arrived UASC and ensure they are placed in safe, appropriate accommodation.
  • Manage a caseload of newly arrived UASC - Including assessments, reviews, reports and court work, aligned with SCCF standards.
  • Work in partnership with agencies - Build strong relationships with statutory, voluntary and private sector partners, carers and those with parental responsibility.
  • Maintain accurate, timely case recording - Using agreed systems to ensure high-quality information management.
  • Apply relevant legislation and policy - Particularly those relating to Looked After Children, CIN and Child Protection.
  • Complete Merton-compliant age assessments - With training and support from managers and experienced colleagues.
  • Prepare reports and represent the service in court - With guidance from senior practitioners and team managers.
  • Engage in training and development - To meet Social Work England and SCCF requirements.

What We're Looking For

  • Qualified Social Worker (SWE registered)
  • Experience or interest in UASC, CiC, assessment or safeguarding
