Connect2Hackney are recruiting for an experienced Youth Support & Development Worker to join the London Borough of Hackney's Children and Families Service. This is an excellent opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of children, young people and families by delivering high-quality youth support services, early help interventions and targeted programmes designed to improve outcomes and support personal development.
The Role
As a Youth Support & Development Worker, you will plan, deliver and evaluate a range of open access and targeted youth work programmes within Youth Hubs, schools and community settings across Hackney. You will build positive relationships with young people, provide individual and group support, and help them access opportunities that promote wellbeing, educational achievement and successful transitions into adulthood. You will work closely with a range of partners including social care, education, health, youth justice services and community organisations to ensure children and young people receive the right support at the right time.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging open access and targeted youth work programmes.
- Support children and young people to improve their physical, emotional and social wellbeing.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with young people, including those who may be hard to reach.
- Undertake outreach work within schools and community settings.
- Assess risk and promote the safeguarding and welfare of young people.
- Support young people to access education, training, employment and wider community opportunities.
- Work in partnership with statutory and voluntary agencies to improve outcomes for young people.
- Maintain accurate records, reports and outcome data.
- Contribute to evening, weekend, holiday and residential youth activities.
Requirements
- Minimum of two years' experience working directly with children, young people and families.
- Experience delivering open access and targeted youth work programmes.
- Understanding of safeguarding, child development and early intervention.
- Ability to engage effectively with young people, families and partner agencies.
- Experience working within diverse communities and supporting inclusive practice.
- Strong communication, assessment and relationship-building skills.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
Desirable
- Qualification in Youth Work, Teaching, Social Work, Health or a related discipline.
- Understanding of apprenticeships, participation and NEET support.
- First Aid qualification.
- Experience delivering arts, sports or outdoor education activities.
