Location: London Borough of Hackney

Pay: £17.28 per hour (£23.29 umbrella)

Hours: Full-time, 36 hours per week, shift work (including weekends)

About the Role

We're looking for a dedicated and proactive Park Keeper to help maintain Hackney's parks and open spaces to the highest standards, ensuring they are safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for all visitors. This is a hands-on, front-facing role where you'll play a key part in keeping green spaces clean, secure, and thriving, while providing excellent customer service to the public.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol parks and open spaces, maintaining a visible presence during opening hours
  • Carry out general grounds maintenance and ensure high horticultural standards
  • Remove litter, graffiti, and maintain clean public areas and facilities
  • Conduct safety inspections of play areas, equipment, and park features
  • Lock/unlock parks and ensure site security
  • Respond to incidents, emergencies, and enforce park byelaws where needed
  • Provide helpful information and support to park users
  • Maintain records, incident reports, and inspection logs
  • Operate and maintain park machinery, vehicles, and equipment safely
  • Support animal care in designated areas (e.g., Clissold Park, when required)
  • Work collaboratively with council teams and external partners

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in grounds maintenance, park keeping, or similar outdoor roles
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work independently
  • Good communication skills and a customer-focused attitude
  • Physically fit and able to carry out manual tasks
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Basic horticultural knowledge (NVQ Level 2 or equivalent desirable)
  • Experience with machinery and equipment (training provided where needed)
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends on a rota basis
