The London Borough of Hackney is looking for an experienced Traffic Engineer to join the Streetscene service, supporting the delivery of Traffic Order Making and related highway schemes. This is a key role working closely with senior engineers to ensure statutory and legal obligations are met while delivering a customer-focused service.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting and delivering the Traffic Order Making process, from preparation through to implementation
- Assisting with and progressing traffic and highway schemes within agreed timescales
- Preparing reports, correspondence, and statutory documentation
- Liaising with internal teams, statutory consultees, and members of the public
- Ensuring all work complies with relevant legislation, council policies, and best value principles
- Attending meetings and, where required, public consultations
- Using IT systems to input, manage, and analyse data
- Supporting service objectives and contributing to continuous improvement
Skills & Experience
- Experience in Traffic Order Making within an urban or local authority environment
- Good understanding of relevant traffic and highway legislation
- Ability to manage workloads, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Confident working with plans, drawings, and technical information
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
Qualifications
- Qualification in Transportation Planning or a related discipline
- Membership of, or eligibility for membership of, a relevant professional body (desirable)
- Minimum 2+ years' experience in traffic or highway engineering (level dependent)
