About the Role
We're looking for a dedicated and proactive Park Keeper to help maintain Hackney's parks and open spaces to the highest standards, ensuring they are safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for all visitors. This is a hands-on, front-facing role where you'll play a key part in keeping green spaces clean, secure, and thriving, while providing excellent customer service to the public.
Key Responsibilities
- Patrol parks and open spaces, maintaining a visible presence during opening hours
- Carry out general grounds maintenance and ensure high horticultural standards
- Remove litter, graffiti, and maintain clean public areas and facilities
- Conduct safety inspections of play areas, equipment, and park features
- Lock/unlock parks and ensure site security
- Respond to incidents, emergencies, and enforce park byelaws where needed
- Provide helpful information and support to park users
- Maintain records, incident reports, and inspection logs
- Operate and maintain park machinery, vehicles, and equipment safely
- Support animal care in designated areas (e.g., Clissold Park, when required)
- Work collaboratively with council teams and external partners
What We're Looking For
- Experience in grounds maintenance, park keeping, or similar outdoor roles
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work independently
- Good communication skills and a customer-focused attitude
- Physically fit and able to carry out manual tasks
- Full UK driving licence
- Basic horticultural knowledge (NVQ Level 2 or equivalent desirable)
- Experience with machinery and equipment (training provided where needed)
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends on a rota basis
