About the Role Hackney Council is seeking a highly organized and experienced Education Compliance Officer to join our team on a fixed-term contract. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring our educational services operate in line with all relevant regulations and codes of practice. The ideal candidate will be adept at managing complex complaints and ensuring strict data protection compliance, including handling Freedom of Information (FOI) and Subject Access Requests (SARs). This position requires a DBS check. Key Responsibilities Managing and investigating complaints in line with council and Ombudsman codes. Handling and processing Freedom of Information (FOI) and Subject Access Requests (SARs) efficiently and accurately. Ensuring all activities comply with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other relevant data protection legislation. Engaging with stakeholders at all levels, from service users to senior leaders, to influence positive outcomes and build effective relationships. Maintaining clear and sensitive communication with service users and providing effective updates to service managers and senior leadership. Required Skills & Experience We are looking for a candidate with a proven track record in a similar role who possesses: Extensive experience in complaints handling and investigation. Expert knowledge of data protection legislation, including GDPR, and a strong understanding of how to manage FOI and SARs. Familiarity with the Local Government Complaint Handling Code. Exceptional time management skills and the ability to prioritize a varied and demanding workload. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively across all levels. Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to build rapport and influence outcomes.Knowledge of Local Authority (LA) education services is a benefit but is not essential.
