Job Purpose: To work with vulnerable adults to assess their needs and develop support plans to achieve an optimum level of independence and to enable them to develop and maintain relationships and be valued members of their community. This will be achieved by working in conjunction with other professionals, family members and by putting the person at the heart of the planning process in ways that are inclusive, antidiscriminatory and anti-oppressive.
To provide social work interventions aimed at safeguarding vulnerable adults from abuse, neglect or exploitation.
Specific Accountability:
- Maintain fitness to practice by meeting the requirements of the professional regulator and uphold the reputation of the profession and the Council.
- Practice as an autonomous professional, exercising professional judgement and operating within the legal and ethical boundaries of social work.
- Work in partnership with people who use services and carers, respecting their views and promoting participation in decision making wherever possible.
- Under the scrutiny of a Social Worker (Level 10) or Assistant Team Manager, use the safeguarding procedures to investigate and manage risk where individuals have suffered or are likely to suffer harm.
- Take responsibility for obtaining regular supervision which includes evaluating practice, reflection and career development.
- Understand and apply the ethical principles of the profession and to reflect on and manage the impact of one's own and others' values on professional practice.
- Integrate the principles of social justice and inclusion and equality into practice, enabling access to independent advocacy where appropriate and appropriately challenging discriminatory practice.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the legal and policy frameworks that inform adult social care practice, including critical awareness of current issues relating to your specific area of practice.
