About the Role
Connect2Dorset is seeking experienced Adults Lawyers to join Dorset Council on a temporary basis for an initial period of 3 months, starting ASAP. This role will involve providing legal advice and representation in a range of Adult Social Care matters, with a particular focus on Court of Protection work and Mental Health law. The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload and provide clear, practical legal advice to client departments. At least one successful candidate must have experience of dealing with Deputyship applications in the Court of Protection.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of Adult Social Care legal matters
- Conduct Welfare and Section 21A applications in the Court of Protection
- Provide advice relating to Ordinary Residence matters
- Handle Nearest Relative applications
- Manage and advise on Deputyship applications
- Provide legal advice in relation to the Mental Health Act
- Attend hearings and provide advocacy where required
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external partners
Skills & Experience
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with relevant practising certificate
- Proven experience in Adult Social Care law
- Experience handling Court of Protection matters, including Welfare and Section 21A applications
- Knowledge and practical experience of the Mental Health Act
- Experience advising on Ordinary Residence and Nearest Relative matters
- At least one candidate must have experience managing Deputyship applications in the Court of Protection
- Strong communication and case management skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment and manage competing priorities effectively
