Job Description:
About the Role
At Balfour Beatty Highways, we don’t just maintain roads — we help shape the future of transport. As part of our mission to create connected, safe and thriving communities, we manage and operate major highway networks across the UK, delivering high-quality consultancy, asset strategy and planning services to both public and private sector clients.
We now have an exciting opportunity to join our Connect Plus Services (CPS) team as a Technology Services Technician, based in Dartford.
In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of maintaining and repairing vital technology on the M25 — one of the UK’s busiest and most important roads. From CCTV and emergency telephones to message signs, signals and traffic detection systems, you’ll work hands-on with the infrastructure that keeps millions of journeys running smoothly and safely.
With another 15 years remaining on this project, this isn’t just a job — it’s a long-term career opportunity offering real stability. You’ll be supported to grow, develop your skills, and play an essential role in a fast-paced and future-focused environment.
If you hold a recognised Electronic or Technology Qualification or Apprenticeship and are ready for your next exciting challenge, we’d love to hear from you.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this hands-on and purpose-driven role, you’ll be part of the team that keeps the M25 running safely, smoothly, and reliably — day and night. Whether it’s responding to faults or carrying out planned maintenance, your work will directly impact millions of journeys every year.
You’ll carry out maintenance and repair work on a wide range of roadside technology, including attending faults, responding to incidents, and reinstating damaged sites and equipment. Working within contract timescales, your efficiency and problem-solving skills will be key to keeping systems operating at their best.
Every day will bring something different — from ensuring systems are accurately logged and updated in NH’s Service Now platform, to managing stores stock and supporting out-of-hours fault rectification.
Safety is at the heart of what we do, and you’ll play your part by living our ‘Zero Harm’ commitment, reporting concerns and maintaining a strong focus on health, safety, and compliance.
If you’re ready to join a supportive and committed team, where every task makes a visible difference and no two days are the same, we’d love to welcome you aboard.
Who We’re Looking For – Key Requirements
We’re looking for someone who brings technical skill, a safety-first mindset, and a willingness to grow. If you’re passionate about hands-on work that makes a difference, we want to hear from you.
Recognised qualification or apprenticeship in Electronics or Technology
Comfortable with IT systems and digital tools
Ideally holds (or is willing to train for):
MEWPs certification
NHSS8 (National Highway Sector Scheme 8)
Traffic Management
Confined Spaces entry
CSCS Safety Card
If you don’t meet every requirement but feel this role is a great fit, we encourage you to apply — we value attitude and potential as much as experience.
Inspiring: Champions curiosity and continuous improvement, role modelling change and managing risks to achieve project outcomes.
Energising: Role models positive and energised project focussed attitudes towards and continuous improvement.
Challenging: seeks and advocates improvements to add value and drive continuous performance.
Challengeable: Encourage a culture of skilled challenging and seek to understand and explore challenge to enable improvement.
Influencing: Builds commitment and consensus, and role models CPS leadership behaviours to deliver our goals.
