We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager to join our Connect Plus Services (CPS) team, supporting the M25 London Orbital Motorway project. CPS is a joint venture between Balfour Beatty, Atkins and Egis, responsible for operating and maintaining the M25, Europe’s busiest motorway. Delivering over £100m of annual investment, alongside planned and reactive maintenance, this is a complex and high-profile network requiring robust and efficient planning. What you’ll be doing

The Project Manager delivers project objectives with respect to the six key areas of performance: Health & Safety, Quality, Cost, Environment, Delivery and People. We are looking for a dynamic and self-motivated individual with a strong project background to join this fast-paced team to deliver the more complex highways and technology schemes throughout their whole project lifecycle. Schemes range in value from £100k to £3m+ and include safety schemes, environmental improvements, technology schemes, remedial works and junction improvement schemes.

Accountabilities

  • Stakeholder Management: Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with the Portfolio Manager, SPM, Construction/Supervisor Teams and key internal and external stakeholders to ensure full mutual understanding of project delivery objectives, report on and review project performance, and agree solutions to issues.
  • Maintain compliance with the DBFO contract by clarifying roles and responsibilities within your team, resolving risks and issues in a timely manner, producing timely and accurate reports, and creating and maintaining specified records, including change management.
  • Design, agree and implement project plans to ensure all activities are appropriately organised and resourced to deliver project objectives and required outcomes.
  • Lead and oversee programmes throughout their entire lifecycle, from feasibility, design and construction through to handover, informing investment proposals for our clients at each stage.
  • Contribute to the development of robust cost profiles, identifying key risks and quantifying resource requirements.
  • Identify and evaluate emerging risks, issues, dependencies and constraints associated with projects, escalating where appropriate. Develop, agree and implement solutions to overcome these where necessary.
  • Commission and manage the performance of subcontractors and designers, ensuring project objectives and requirements are clearly understood, setting clear expectations for health and safety, time and cost management, and taking appropriate remedial action where necessary.
  • Support the delivery of the business’s sustainability activities, including net zero and biodiversity net gain initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Construction/Supervisor Team to ensure permits, certificates and site reporting are managed correctly and align with project needs.
  • Manage NEC Contract Options as Project Manager.

Working Arrangements

Ability and willingness to travel to other offices and depots across the network as required. Periodic requirement for site visits, including night shifts. Full driving licence required.

  • Experience of managing project teams to successfully develop multiple projects concurrently.
  • A strong collaborator with integrity and experience of managing relationships with multiple stakeholders, with proven ability to influence outcomes and secure engagement across a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Commercially focused, with the ability to drive project performance and manage contracts to deliver successful outcomes.
  • High resilience to deal constructively with conflicting priorities and setbacks.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to clarify and ensure understanding of project strategies and solutions.
  • Experience of managing and maintaining agreed project plans and detailed stage plans in conjunction with subcontractors, designers and internal partners.
  • Demonstrable experience as a mentor and/or coach, developing project management talent, skills and competencies in junior team members.
  • Commercially astute.
  • Good knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics.
  • Proven record of adopting a solution-based approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to understand the business vision and inspire this shared vision across the team.

Preferred qualifications

  • Membership of a professional management body, e.g. APM.
  • Formal qualification (BSc/MSc) in Management, Construction or equivalent experience.
  • APM PFQ, PMQ or PPQ.
  • CSCS and SMSTS (or equivalent).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Holds a current driving licence.
