Connect it Utility Services is a leading provider of electrical and multi‑utility infrastructure services, delivering works across the UK. Working in partnership with Distribution Network Operators such as SSEN, we undertake safe, compliant and high‑quality overhead line construction and maintenance to support secure supplies to customers.
We are currently seeking LE1 and LE2 Overhead Lines Persons to join our delivery teams on the SSEN Distribution Network framework. This role is central to the construction, maintenance and enhancement of LV, 11kV and up to 33kV overhead line assets, with a strong focus on safety, technical excellence and teamwork.
Responsibilities- Carry out the construction, maintenance and refurbishment of overhead lines and associated plant, connections and earthing systems.
- Undertake authorised live and de‑energised works on LV networks and overhead lines up to and including 33kV, in line with SSEN Electrical Safety Rules.
- Install, connect, disconnect, remove and re‑site portable generation equipment as required.
- Remove and replace links and fuses on the LV distribution network.
- Complete earth resistance, continuity and supply point testing, along with conductor height measurements using approved equipment.
- Undertake vegetation management activities to maintain statutory and safety clearances.
- Safely operate plant, mechanical aids, tools and portable equipment.
- Drive company vehicles, complete daily vehicle checks and maintain roadworthiness and cleanliness.
- Work in full compliance with SSEN standards, DNO requirements, CDM regulations and company procedures.
- Complete self and point‑of‑work risk assessments, supporting safe systems of work.
- Apply network earths where authorised and competent to do so.
- Promote a positive safety culture, ensuring the safety of colleagues, customers and the public.
- Work collaboratively with operatives, Supervisors and control staff to meet framework performance targets.
- Operate with initiative while maintaining clear communication, professionalism and a strong team ethos.
- Proven experience in overhead line construction and maintenance on LV, 11kV and up to 33kV distribution networks.
- Strong understanding of safe systems of work and risk assessment within high risk electrical environments.
- Experience of live line working (authorisation dependent).
- Competence in the use of meters, diagnostic instruments and network testing equipment.
- Ability to work independently, make sound decisions and contribute effectively as part of a wider operational team.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly convey technical information to colleagues, supervisors and stakeholders.
- Flexible and resilient approach to work, including outdoor working in all weather conditions.
- Have current DNO authorisations (Work on Dead Networks, Live LV Working).
- Ideally SSEN authorisations but can be from other DNOs with the opportunity to gain the equivalent SSEN authorisations.
- Pole Top Rescue and Working at Height.
- NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act) accreditation.
- EUSR / SHEA Power.
- NPORS MEWP, plant and machinery tickets.
- Emergency First Aid / First Aid at Work certification.
- Manual Handling and Chainsaw qualifications (vegetation or climbing activities may form part of the role).
- Full UK driving licence and capability to tow.
