As a Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor, you’ll take ownership of commercial management, contract administration, cost control and stakeholder engagement. This is a high-visibility role with the opportunity to influence project outcomes, strengthen client relationships, and support the continued growth of our expanding utility services portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Lead the administration and management of live contracts, ensuring all contractual obligations are met and commercial risks are controlled.
- Oversee processes to maintain accurate, up-to-date supplier information and ensure compliance with internal standards.
- Prepare and review activity schedules, support tender submissions, and contribute to the procurement of new contracts.
- Provide mentoring, coaching, and technical guidance to the commercial team, supporting both professional and personal development.
- Monitor site costs weekly, ensuring accurate reporting, early identification of variances, and adherence to commercial processes.
- Ensure all work complies with the company’s Health & Safety Policy and wider statutory requirements.
- Manage and report on project changes, ensuring best practice in change control and clear communication with stakeholders.
- Take responsibility for managing client expectations and overseeing commercial performance across multiple projects to maximise profit, control costs, and protect the long-term interests of the business.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, using negotiation and influencing skills to achieve positive outcomes.
- Provide commercially focused advice on contract terms, risks, and obligations to ensure project parameters are clearly defined and understood.
- Support the wider team with complex commercial queries and assist in resolving disputes, escalating to the Commercial Manager where necessary.
- Undertake regular site visits to strengthen relationships with operational teams and maintain a strong understanding of project progress and challenges.
Skills Required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with confidence when engaging stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent attention to detail, organisational capability, and time-management abilities.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to interpret, manage, and store commercial data effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Effective negotiation, influencing, and problem-solving abilities.
- Team-oriented approach with strong interpersonal and collaborative working skills.
Educational Requirements
- Qualified in Quantity Surveying (minimum NVQ level or equivalent).
- Background in civils, utilities, or highways sectors.
- Experience using accounting, commercial, or customer service software platforms is advantageous.
