We are looking for an experienced Overhead Lines Supervisor to provide strong site‑based leadership on our SSEN Distribution Network framework. This role is critical to ensuring overhead line works on LV, 11kV and up to 33kV networks are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest technical standards.

Location: Head office of Foundation House – Hedge End, with works across the South of England.

  • Organise, coordinate and supervise overhead line teams to ensure works are safely planned, correctly sequenced and efficiently delivered.
  • Review work packs, drawings, permits, RAMS and access arrangements to confirm readiness prior to work commencement.
  • Provide clear on‑site leadership and technical direction during construction, maintenance and refurbishment activities.
  • Supervise service line works, generator connections and daily activities, ensuring compliance with SSEN technical standards and quality requirements.
  • Monitor live LV works and overhead line outages up to and including 33kV, ensuring authorisations and safety controls are followed.
  • Implement and enforce site‑specific safe systems of work, leading briefings, toolbox talks and point‑of‑work discussions.
  • Carry out site inspections and safety observations, addressing hazards, unsafe acts or non‑compliances immediately.
  • Oversee or safely coordinate switching, isolations and earthing activities in line with authorisations.
  • Ensure plant, tools, MEWPs, vehicles and equipment are suitable, inspected and used correctly.
  • Supervise, support and mentor overhead line operatives, promoting productivity, quality workmanship and professional standards.
  • Monitor site performance to ensure delivery aligns with programme, quality and SSEN framework expectations.
  • Act as the primary on‑site interface between operational teams, management and SSEN representatives.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in overhead line construction and maintenance on LV, 11kV and up to 33kV distribution networks.
  • Proven ability to supervise teams working in high‑risk electrical environments.
  • Strong knowledge of SSEN Electrical Safety Rules, permits, switching processes and safe systems of work.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and prioritise works to meet safety, quality and programme requirements.
  • Experience carrying out site inspections, audits and safety observations.
  • Clear, confident communicator with the ability to deliver briefings and technical instructions.
  • Calm and decisive approach, particularly during outages, faults or abnormal conditions.

Educational Requirements

  • SSEN authorisation for LV overhead line construction and maintenance, with supervisory exposure to 11kV / 33kV networks.
  • Pole Top Rescue and Working at Height certification.
  • NRSWA accreditation.
  • EUSR / SHEA Power NPORS or equivalent MEWP, plant and machinery tickets.
  • Emergency First Aid or First Aid at Work.
  • Manual Handling and Chainsaw certification where applicable.
  • Full UK driving licence and towing capability.
