The Role
We are seeking a seasoned Director of R&D to lead our high-performing, cross-disciplinary team. This role is ideally suited for a Head of Engineering or Engineering Director who has successfully managed software engineering teams. As the Director of R&D, you will be responsible for driving innovation, overseeing new product development initiatives, and ensuring projects are delivered on time and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Management: Oversee and direct all R&D activities, leading a diverse team of software developers, design engineers, and other technical specialists.
- Innovation & Strategy: Build a robust pipeline of new product concepts and implement effective R&D strategies to maintain our competitive edge.
- Project Oversight: Ensure timely, on-budget delivery of projects while adhering to quality and regulatory standards.
- Industry Engagement: Cultivate and maintain strong networks with industry experts, end users, and key opinion leaders to anticipate market needs.
- Process Improvement: Lead continuous improvements in R&D processes, ensuring best practices are implemented across the team.
- Intellectual Property: Manage the exploitation and protection of intellectual property to support business growth.
What We’re Looking For
Experience: A minimum of 10 years in managerial roles, with substantial experience as a Head of Engineering or Engineering Director. Proven track record in managing and leading software engineering teams. Exposure to robotics, AI, or related technologies is a plus. Experience in working with instruments or the medical device sector is a significant advantage.
Skills: Exceptional leadership and team-building capabilities. Strong business acumen with a focus on strategic, data-driven decision-making. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across diverse disciplines.
Qualifications: A degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related field (advanced qualifications are highly desirable).
