A leading energy company in London has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced risk analyst to join their growing Risk department collaborating across the business providing enhanced risk measurement. The Risk Analyst represents the team as a subject matter expert and will be required to work on complex risk topics such as modelling VaR, volatility, electricity trading and balancing, IR, options, price simulations, etc.
Independently investigating and solving varied complex energy risk problems will be a core responsibility of this role so the successful candidate will have existing knowledge of energy market trading and products, and standard risk topics (volatility, correlation, VaR) experience gained from within a similar role working for a UK energy trading/supply business.
This is a 12 month fixed term contract with a high possibility of becoming a permanent position based on the performance of the successful candidate.
Further details and a more thorough overview of the role will be discussed at interview but the main responsibilities will include:
- Monitor and report on the various traded and non-traded positions held by the company and monitor and report on risk limits.
- Create, enhance and validate risk and valuation tools and models.
- Enhance risk measurement methodologies, this includes limit structures, VaR measurements, forward curves, stress testing and component analysis.
- Analysis to support new trading activities (new products and markets, assessing hedge effectiveness, implementing limits and risk frameworks).
- Undertake ad-hoc analysis based projects to meet the needs of the business.
- Support other members of the Risk team and work to improve skills levels across the Risk group.
Ideal qualifications, skill sets and experience:
- Strong academic background, ideally with an energy/economics/numerical degree.
- Experience in a Risk/Pricing/Trading role for a UK energy business.
- Knowledge of GB Power trading (products, market, etc.) and standard risk topics (volatility, correlation, VaR).
- Excellent communication skills with confidence to challenge traders.
- Advanced Excel (lookups, pivot tables), VBA and SQL experience required.
