A commercially focused energy business is seeking to hire an experienced energy analyst to work in a small team focused on improving the profitability of the trading and hedging activities of the company. You will need to be highly numerate with excellent analytical skills and ideally have working experience in an energy commodity trading, risk or pricing environment within a UK energy business.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Run and continuously improve existing price forecasting, models, databases and methodology.
  • Monitor and assess market and regulatory developments including news reports and the review and challenge external consultant forecasts.
  • Maintain and regularly review market data and input assumptions.
  • Produce price forecast and scenarios, and provide expert insight for optimisation, hedging, budgeting and investment/business development decisions.
  • Analyse and produce regular reports including assessments of forecasting accuracy and sources of variance.
  • Presentation of results to stakeholders, including senior management and investors.

Ideal qualifications, skill sets and experience:

  • Strong academic background with a numerical/analytical degree.
  • Be highly numerate with strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent IT skills, including spreadsheet skills, and preferably, database skills and programming skills.
  • Excellent understanding of UK electricity market and relevant commodity markets and the fundamental drivers which shape them.
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate complex issues in a clear, concise and coherent manner and understand the differing agendas and drivers of the audience.
  • Knowledge of interconnected power markets and trading practices ideal, but not essential.
  • Ability to perform fundamental market analysis using principles of economic theory.
