Job Title: Principal Educational Psychologist

We are seeking an experienced Principal Educational Psychologist to provide strategic leadership and operational management for an Educational Psychology Service (EPS).
The successful candidate will be responsible for the professional practice, leadership, management, deployment, supervision and continuing professional development of Educational Psychologists within the service.
Working as an integral member of the SEND leadership group, the role will contribute to improving outcomes for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the planning, development and delivery of an effective Educational Psychology Team Plan.
- Provide strategic leadership and operational management of the Educational Psychology Service.
- Ensure services comply with HCPC and British Psychological Society professional standards.
- Lead and supervise Educational Psychologists, including workforce development, recruitment and retention.
- Ensure effective psychological advice and support is provided to children, young people, families, schools and educational settings.
- Provide appropriate responses to critical incidents.
- Develop partnerships across education, health and social care.
- Provide statutory advice in accordance with the SEND Code of Practice 0β25 years.
- Support complex casework and attendance at SEN Tribunals.
- Ensure EHCP assessments meet statutory timescales and quality standards.
- Promote inclusive educational practice and effective interventions.
- Maintain safeguarding standards and confidential records in accordance with GDPR.
- Contribute to service development, quality assurance and continuous improvement.
Essential Experience and Qualifications
- Professional postgraduate qualification in Educational Psychology.
- Active HCPC registration.
- Proven experience as a Senior Educational Psychologist, including leading and supervising a team.
- Experience working with stakeholders across education, health, statutory, private and voluntary sectors.
- Experience of multi-professional casework, research, projects and policy development.
- Extensive knowledge of SEND legislation, the SEND Code of Practice and Ofsted and CQC requirements.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection.
- Experience of strategic planning, service development and quality assurance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including statutory report writing.
- Ability to manage complex information, make sound judgements and work collaboratively.
- Ability to evaluate service performance and lead improvements.
- Commitment to equality, diversity and high-quality service delivery.
- Current driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use.
Desirable Criteria
- Chartered status.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
- Ability to work irregular hours and attend occasional evening meetings.
- Evidence of equality and diversity awareness training.
