Our client, a leading independent through school in Essex, is seeking an Academic Coach to support pupils in achieving their full academic potential. This newly created role offers an exciting opportunity to shape and develop a coaching programme that will have a lasting impact on student outcomes and wellbeing.
Working closely with senior academic and pastoral leaders, the Academic Coach will provide targeted support to pupils, particularly in Years 10 and 11, helping them develop effective study habits, revision strategies, organisational skills and academic confidence. Through a combination of data analysis, coaching conversations and collaborative planning, the successful candidate will empower pupils to take ownership of their learning and achieve the best possible outcomes.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with experience in education, coaching, mentoring, tutoring, youth development or learning support who is passionate about helping young people succeed.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Experience working with young people, particularly those of secondary school age
- An understanding of GCSE demands, revision planning and examination preparation
- Experience in coaching, mentoring, tutoring, pastoral support, learning support or a related field
- The ability to build positive and credible relationships with pupils, parents and staff
- Confidence in interpreting academic data and using it to identify priorities and next steps
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- A proactive, positive and solution-focused approach
- High levels of discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive information
- A commitment to helping every pupil achieve their individual potential
Key responsibilities will include:
- Creating, reviewing and monitoring individual academic action plans for identified pupils
- Supporting pupils with organisation, study skills, revision planning, examination technique and self-management
- Working closely with teachers, tutors, Heads of Year and senior leaders to coordinate academic support strategies
- Supporting high-achieving pupils in pursuing ambitious academic goals and developing independent learning skills
- Communicating with parents where appropriate to reinforce agreed strategies and targets
- Monitoring and evaluating the impact of coaching interventions through academic and behavioural indicators
- Helping to foster a culture of academic ambition, resilience and personal responsibility across the school
